New Car

Jay got a new car!!!!!

For any of you who know about Jay's little blue Honda Civic, you will know why this is such an event for us. Jay had his for about 12 years. He bought it used and it had some "special" qualities about it since he bought it. One thing about our Civic was that you could never tell if it was blue or green. Another thing about the Civic was it's car alarm. It would go off at random, even a few times after Jay had it disconnected. The muffler on the Civic always wanted to go off and explore the world on its own. We replaced the clutch (oh yeah this baby was a standard) at least once. It had no power features. When the original radio had cease to impress one of our friends, she had a new one installed for Jay's birthday one year, that had ceased to work anymore. That finally died. Only 2 of the four doors worked properly by the time we had to let it go. The catalytic converter would shake rattle and roll as we drove down the street, sounding like we had loose lug nuts banging around the engine. The heater and the air conditioner no longer worked. The fabric of the ceiling was coming down and the paint was wearing off the hood and the roof of the car. I really should have gotten a picture of the old bomb before we let it go, but I was honestly glad to let it go. I had to pray that whoever was driving that car would get home safely, not for fear of accident, but for fear of sudden car death syndrome.

Anyway here is a pic of our new car. It is a Toyota Corolla. We chose it for performance and price. I also really like the Toyota service department and that is what won the Toyota over another Civic. Poor Jay though, this one is an automatic which took some getting used to for both of us (anyone who has ever drove a standard with any regularity will laugh knowing what I mean) and it has automatic locks and windows which Jay didn't want. The only con I have is that its a base model (Jay loves this) and it has no cruise control, no air vents in the rear, and no rear charging ports. The charging port in the front is crowded and not as easy to access when the car is in park. But we are very grateful for the new car. It gets 38(? Somewhere in the 30's) miles per gallon (much better than my Sienna's 17-20) and it has all the new car safety features like air bags that work, passenger air bags, and an auxiliary port (though not USB). I also like to tease Jay about the frivolous pinstripe on the car. We paid a huge down payment and will have it all paid of by this time next year (so long as everything goes as planned).

Yay for new cars! When we moved here Joe bought a new Mazda. We both drove that around until we got our Sienna shipped from Korea a month later. After driving that Mazda for a month, my Sienna felt like such a piece of crap...but it just needs a little TLC;)
