This Week at the Haderlie's

So here are a few of the highlights from this week:

Joshua had Texas Day at his school and he dressed up as a cowboy, sang songs, and danced (square and line). It was a cute program.

Elliott had fairy tale day (sorry no pictures of this one...I couldn't get to the school that day). He dressed up as a knight and had a good time making a gold crown with fruit loop jewels.

Beth and Jay had a nice singing session in the bedroom. Beth played a "drum" while Jay strummed away love songs and church hymns on the guitar.

Michael and Missy had a date watching movies and eating junk food in Michael's room. We watched Bolt, Bedtime Stories, and City of Ember. It was fun! We all especially laughed at Bedtime Stories. I was a little worried about it with Adam Sandler, but teamed up with Disney it was a great movie.

We invested in a wheat grinder. On Sunday we ground wheat and made our first all whole wheat bread from our food storage. Yes Mom, I finally got around to using it. Jay and I were amused to see how much the kids enjoyed grinding the wheat...especially Joshua who went on to grind the whole #10 can. He really got into it. My first loaf turned out really bad...it didn't rise. I guess I over kneaded it. The second loaf was much better. Next week I will experiment with a different bread recipe...maybe one that is a bit sweeter. If anyone has a really great one let me know.












I have really enjoyed my new camera. I am hoping we will have enough karate footage of us all to make a fun video to post for you all. Hope you enjoy the pictures and our little update.

Guess that allergy!

Poor Joshua, he just can't get a break. They say there is one kid in every family that is the "sick" kid. Joshua is ours. He has broke out into serious hives again, I'm almost thinking of taking him to the ER, but I can see that the Benadryl is working. We have a few guesses. One is pancake syrup. I mentioned in an earlier post that Joshua might be allergic to turkey bacon, but we had syrup that same meal. Joshua is now taking Zyrtec, although he's had it for several days now and hasn't had the reaction until now so is it that? Another one is Canada Dry Ginger Ale, the only other thing that he had that was unusual to cause the hives.

So now we are going to stop all three, wait till he clears up and then try again with one of these and wait and see. The only problem with that is that his reactions are more and more severe and I'm afraid of how bad it will be if we try and actually find out the culprit. Will have to call the Dr. on Monday.

Does any one have any guesses?

Sunday Morning 9am

I took Joshua to the ER last night. His hives wouldn't go away with the Benadryl and he spiked a high fever along with difficulty breathing. The ER doctor took a chest x-ray and was afraid he may have pnemonia.

So after three x-rays there is no pnemonia. They gave Joshua a prescription for a steriod. The prognosis is either, a virus that caused the hives, or a virus that caused the fever, and a seperate allergic reation to who knows what.

I was at the ER from 1:20-3:45am. Joshua chatted away the whole time and we are no nearer to finding out what makes him break out. >I am so tired, missed the kids Easter Bunny reactions, and will stay home from church (again) with Joshua due to our lack of sleep last night.

BTW Joshua woke up this morning hive free, fever free, but tired.

Eww Gross...My Life With Boys

Alright as a mother of three boys you would think that I am used to this sort of stuff by now, but no. It still gets responses from me.

Joshua and Beth were playing their traditional round of Sunday games in the living room while I was making dinner. They start laughing hysterically. So I come over to see what is so funny. They are playing Connect Four. I am attaching a picture here for those who don't know the game.



I know better than to ask what is funny so I just watch and wait. Joshua then calls out to Beth "Hey Beth look it's poop!" Then making as realistic sounds as he knew how Joshua slowly drops checkers (yes for mothers of boys who know...the black ones) into the base of the game. With each dropping came the "plop" sound effect. Then after all the "poop" was loaded into the base of the game, the "toilet" flushes and all the "poop" is released out of the base of the game. I couldn't help but laugh at his imagination and be horrified that he (who learned this type of behavior from his older brothers) is teaching this behavior to my baby girl. What is a mother to do?

Post Op Complaining

Joshua had surgery last Friday for all who didn't know it. They removed his tonsills and adenoids and gave him new tubes to replace the others that had fallen out. Overall everything went well and we are experienced with the effects as both he and Michael have had surgeries before.

I like to think I am a compassionate mother...especially when my children are sick. But I am about to go crazy with Joshua. He has to be forced to drink and take his medicines. It is now Thursday, almost a full week after the operation and he will barely eat anything. It is wearing on my nerves and my patience. The little guy is so frail and weak. If he would just stop whining, take the meds, and drink and eat more than a teaspoon at a sitting he would feel better.

I sound like Rachel in Anne of Avonlea I know it, but I am getting frustrated and more worried about him. I am also tired and so are the other children of being bound to the house because Joshua isn't well enough to go anywhere. Not that we could afford it or that there is anywhere that Elliott would think is something fun.
